architecture — Though destroyed by the bombs of the Korean war in the 1950's, the city of Pyongyang has risen again under the regime of Kim Il Sung. The Ryugyong Hotel (or Ryu-Gyong Hotel) is now just a towering, empty concrete shell in Sojang-dong, in the Potong-gang District of Pyongyang, North Korea.

art — Piet Mondrian was an important contributor to the De Stijl art movement and group, which was founded by Theo van Doesburg. Despite being well-known, often-parodied and even trivialized, Mondrian's paintings exhibit a complexity that belies their apparent simplicity.

engineering — The Falkirk Wheel is 35m or 115ft high, the height of eight double-decker buses. Each gondola contains 300 tonnes of water, meaning that the wheel moves 600 tonnes on each lift. Up to eight boats can be carried at any one time.

history — Peles Castle, Romania, built between 1873-1883 (first floor) and between 1896-1914 (second floor), by the order of Carol of Hohenzollern-first king of Romania, in the style of german rennaissancce , following the plans of a Viennese arhitect Wilhelm von Doderer and of a german arhitect Johann Schultz from Lemberg.
